Current Position and Professional Functions

Dr. Thein is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Epidemiology, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, and a Visiting Fellow at the National Centre in HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research (NCHECR), the University of New South Wales. Dr. Thein is a clinical epidemiologist, and a public health and health services researcher.

Dr. Thein holds an Ontario Institute for Cancer Research Health Services Research Program New Investigator Award in the area of infectious disease epidemiology and cancer research (2010-2015).

Research Interests and Expertise

Research interests include infectious disease and cancer epidemiology with a particular focus on viral hepatitis and hepatocellular carcinoma, mathematical modeling methods for health and economic evaluation, evidence synthesis, measuring health-related quality of life and utilities, health services research using administrative and clinical data, and health policy decision-making.
