Mary-Ellen Hogan, BScPhm, PharmD, MSc, PhD


Education and Training

Mary-Ellen completed her pharmacy training at the University of Toronto and later completed an advanced practice degree in pharmacy. She has many years of experience in community pharmacy practice, and has also worked in the pharmaceutical industry. In her master’s training, she designed and conducted a randomized controlled trial of an intervention to reduce procedural pain in infants. She also contributed to several other clinical research projects, and gained experience in conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses. She has training in clinical epidemiology, biostatistics, health services research using administrative data, decision analytic modeling, and economic evaluation methods including cost-utility analysis.

Research Interests and Expertise

Mary-Ellen’s research interests are focused on chronic pain. She is involved in healthcare costing, use of health services, health related quality of life and other outcomes research. She uses large administrative data sets at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences to answer questions about Ontarians with chronic pain.
