Current Position and Professional Functions
Dr. Peter C. Coyte is a Professor of Health Economics at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. He held a CHSRF/CIHR Health Services Research Chair between 2000-2010 and was the Director of the CIHR Strategic Training Program in Health Care, Technology and Place (HCTP) . He is actively engaged in research programs dealing with palliative care, unpaid caregiving, tobacco costs and an array of HTAs.
Education and Training
Dr. Coyte earned a BA, MA and a PhD in Economics, and prior to joining the University in 1987, he was a member of the Economics Departments at the University of Alberta and Simon Fraser University.

Research Interests and Expertise
Dr. Coyte is an international expert in the areas of health economics, health services evaluation, and health policy and planning. His studies have included the measurement of regional variations in health service utilization, evaluations of health service interventions, and assessments of health service finance, organization, and delivery.
Dr. Coyte was instrumental in the development of the Canadian Association for Health Services and Policy Research (CAHSPR), a multi-disciplinary membership-based Association dedicated to improving the quality, relevance and application of health services and policy research for both inter-disciplinary researchers as well as for users of research. Dr. Coyte was elected to a two-year term as the inaugural President of CAHSPR in 2003.
